The Parable of the Persistent Widow!!!
Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’”

Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”………. Luke 18:1-8
In our last study, we considered Jesus teaching on the Kingdom within us. We noted that the Kingdom of God has nothing to do with External observation but it is a life within. A life of Righteousness, Peace and Joy in the Holy Spirit. Today, we shall look at a Parable teaching us the necessity of persistence in Prayer.
Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, saying: There were only two Parables that Jesus ever Spoke on the subject of Prayer. One was the one we considered when we studied Luke 11: 5-8 on the Parable of the Night Visitor, the other is here. And the very interesting thing is that both these Parable emphasizes the same point which is Perseverance. That is, “Don’t give up Praying”. In the Parable of the night visitor, we say in the Parable that a Man had a visitor at midnight in His house and He had no food to set before Him. So He went to his neighbor and kept on banging on his neighbor’s door until he got food for his midnight visitor. There, Jesus emphasizes the importance of persistence in asking God for that which we need to bless others who come across our path who are in Spiritual need. Seeking God for the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that we can serve others for we have nothing to give them spiritually apart from the gifts of the Holy Spirit that God gives us. And here in the Parable of the persistent Widow, if you notice carefully, you will discover that it is the same emphasis although for a different need. Let us therefore consider it more in specific.
There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him: Here we find a Widow and that is a picture of a Believer in the Church. We can say a Widow is a Person who has no Male member in the house to defend her. Obviously, if she had a Son, the Son would have gone and fought for the Mother but. Here was a widow who was helpless and completely dependent on the mercies of others. An helpless person!!! This is the picture Jesus uses of a Believer. And she goes to a Judge who  did not fear God nor regard man. Jesus was using the character of this Judge to show how much more God who is a good God will do for his elect than this judge did for this Widow. So we can could consider this Judge as a Picture of God. So we see an helpless Believer who recognizes His helplessness and has no confidence left in himself coming to God with a deep request. Let us therefore recognise that we are helpless needy and poor and let this drive us to God in prayer.
saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.: Our Adversary is Satan(1 Peter 5:8). And Devil fights us mainly through the  lust in our flesh. We can say the Lust in our flesh are the agents that are on Satan’s side that Dwells right within our flesh. And this woman was requesting for protection from her adversary. A picture of a Believer crying out to God asking for help to stand against his enemies. Notice the word she used. She said, ” Get justice for me from my adversary.”. She was saying, “Give me Protection which I rightfully deserve according to the Law of the  Land”. Here is a Believer who recognizes that the Law is on her side. This is one who recognizes that Satan has been defeated by Jesus on Calvary and has stripped The Devil’s power from Him. Colossians 2:14-15 says, ” having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” Hebrews 2:14-15 says, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” We need to recognize this also. If we don’t know what Jesus has done for us, we will not be able to ask for justice like this widow against our opponent. We must know our what is our right and privileges in Christ Jesus. It becomes easy when we believe that Jesus came in a Flesh like us. A Flesh that has the same lust to Sin. A Flesh that was tempted to Sin just like us. For the Bible says in Hebrews 4:15 that, ” For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” Hebrews 2:18 says, ” For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.”. James 1:14-15 says, ” But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” So Why is it that Jesus never Sinned? Hebrews 5:7-8 tells us the answer, “In the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with VEHEMENT CRIES and TEARS to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.” This is exactly what Jesus is driving to in this parable. We shall see that soon.
And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’”: There are many people who goes to God just once in prayer and if they don’t get what they want, they give up. If this woman has gone just once, the judge would not have answered her. But this woman keeps coming, she kept coming to the Judge with just one request, ” Get justice for me from my adversary” and the judge became so concerned about her matter. And arose to help her and give her justice.
Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect who CRY out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily: If an Unrighteous Judge will get justice for this Woman, how much more God who is a Righteous Judge do for his elect. There is nothing Unrighteous in God delivering us from the hands of our enemies because Jesus has opened a way for us. We have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. Our bodies now belong to the Lord. Sin should have no place in our bodies that have been bought with a price. This right is for those that have given their lives to Jesus. But not even for all his elect. It is for his elect that cry to Him for justice Day and night. It is for those who are crying to the Lord day and night saying, “Lord, Deliver Me from Sin! Deliver Me from the Lust in my Flesh. Deliver Me from the grip of the Devil. Deliver Me so that I can walk like Jesus in total triumph over Satan”. It is for those who are crying vehemently as Jesus did in the days of His Flesh when he walked upon the Earth as a Man. Are you doing this,? Do you mourn and cry out to God day and night each time to slipped off during the day? Do you wet your pillows in tears because you Sinned during the day? If you are like this, then you are part of those elect who are crying to Him day and night. Those who cry out day and night comes to Victory over Sin quickly. Those who sit back on an easy chair, praying once or twice and forgets about it never gets victory even in fifty years. Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. The reason you have not gotten Victory over those Sin is because You did not mourn and cry out to God to give you victory over your Adversary. Let us therefore learn from this poor widow and claim our rights.
Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?: This is the last days Jesus is speaking of, will the Lord find people who have this faith that they can come to Victory over Satan and Sin? Indeed, they will be very few. God desires that we should be among that few who will have faith and trust Him that He will give us complete victory over Satan and all the lust in our flesh so that we can walk in victory just as Jesus did. This is God’s will for us, this is our legal right, this is our birthright. We must never give it up. We must continue to Go to the Lord until He gives us victory over all known Sin that seeks to enslave us.
Dear Friend, the Lord is more eager to give you victory over Sin than You desire to get it. The reason why you have not been delivered is because you did not really believe that the Lord will give you victory. You have been cheated of your rights in Christ Jesus. The Devil is taking hold of what belongs to God. Your body is the Temple of God, the Devil has no rights anymore to harass you. Cry out to the Lord for victory!!! Cry out to Him day and night!!! Though it tarries and it seems you are not getting it, don’t give up. Continue to cry to Him and you will see yourself walking in Victory over Sin. May the Lord open our eyes to see that God is on our side against the Devil.(Amen). God bless you. Have a blessed day.
#Everyday with Jesus.
