Abomination in the Sight of God!!!
He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own? “No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they derided Him. And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God…… Luke 16:9-15
In our last study, we were considering the Parable of the unjust steward where Jesus was telling us to learn from how worldly people are so Wise and would go any length when it comes to getting what they want even if they have to go unrighteous things. Please note, the steward was not praised for His unrighteous dealings but He was Praised for having a thought about His future. We are to learn to also use what we have now to plan for our eternal dwellings. We are to make use of our resources and ability to ensure that we make a lot of friends who will receive us in Heaven. Today we shall continue in our study by seeing what Jesus has to say about true riches and the Love of money.
He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.: The test of our faithfulness is not in big things but in the small things. Money is a very small thing and it is in it that God test our faithfulness in bigger things. We don’t have to wait until we have big things to become faithful. In that little thing we have remain faithful. I remember I use to have a friend who says, “When I have time, I will study my Bible. I am always busy during the day”. Yet you will see Him chatting online for hours. Years has passed and Yet He has not read through the Book of Matthew. If only He had been faithful in the use of those little minutes He had for Himself, then by now He would have studied so much. The same thing applies to everything. If you are faithful with the use of any little thing the Lord gives you, He will see you as being faithful in much. Do you remember the parable of the talents? The one that got five talents and two talents got the same commendation from their master which was, ” Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’(Matt 25:21,23)”. Whether the Lord gives you five hours or two hours free time, if you are faithful in it, God will commit greater things to you. Let us therefore be faithful in the Little we have now and God will see us as being faithful in greater things.
Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? “: The True riches are not what we use on Earth, what we use on Earth is not true wealth. Have you seen children playing Monopoly with paper Money? And you know that as an adult, that is not real money but you see children fighting for it in that game. This is exactly what Angels in Heaven sees when they Look at us fighting over Earthly wealth. They just feel so sorry and surprised that people who call themselves Believers don’t realize that, “This is not True riches!!! This is just a game that is going to be over one day”. And God is testing us through the Money He gives us on Earth to see if we can be entrusted with eternal spiritual wealth. And this is why many believers are poor spiritually because they are not faithful with material things. They may be righteous, they may not cheat anybody but they use everything for themselves. They live for themselves, they live for their Job, profession, advancement in the world and the result is that they remain spiritually poor. But the one who sees that all these is worth nothing gives it all up to God and become spiritually rich.
What are the True riches? The true riches are original Revelation on the word of God, I don’t mean what you heard from someone else or read in a book. Well that’s Good, that’s second best. But along with all that, how much are you getting original revelation from the Holy Spirit when you read the word of God? Shall I tell you why you are not getting it? You are not faithful with money, so the Lord is not giving you True riches from His words. Another thing we can call True riches is the character of Christ in your life. The life of Jesus Christ being Manifested in our lives are the True riches. How much you have partaken of the Divine nature is an indication of how faithful you are with money. God gives these life of Jesus to those who are faithful in their use of money. The measure of your faithfulness with material things will determine the measure in which God releases revelation and divine nature into your life.
And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own?: Money belongs to God. He says, “Silver and gold is mine”. He only gave it as a loan to us. And if I am not faithful in the use of that which belongs to another, how can I be given that which is my own. What is My own? My own is that which I shall have forever, for all eternity from God. This is what I can call my own. What the Lord gives to me as an inheritance forever. Indeed, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of Man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. Thank God for the Holy Spirit that has shown us what the Father has kept for us in eternity. If you don’t know it, then I doubt if you are in tune with the Holy Spirit. There are many who ask questions like, “What will God give us in Heaven?” I laughed and say, “The Holy should reveal this to you!!! I hope the Holy spirit has revealed it to you. If not, you are so so missing something the Holy Spirit desire to show you!!! Ask the Holy to show you what the Father has kept for those who love Him and He will.
“No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”: It is impossible to serve two Master. There are only two Masters in the this world. And they are God and Mammon(Material things). It is interesting that Jesus did not say God and Satan. If we were to say the two Masters were God and Satan, it is obvious to us that we cannot serve both. Nobody will try to serve God and Satan. Nobody will want to hold on to Satan and God at the same time. Everybody will like to hate Satan and despise Him. But when Jesus says the two masters are God and Mammon,. Then we see how so many have deceived themselves by trying to serve both. You may say, “I am not serving Money but God”. Well this is the test, “You must either hate money and Love God”. In other words, “if you love God, you have to hate money and if you love money, you have to hate God” these are the words of Jesus. Many of us don’t look at it that way. There are many Believers who love money and they also think they love God. It is just not possible. Look at what Jesus says!!! Jesus that know better than everyone else says, “if you love money, you hate God”. If we take it like that, then we shall see the truth of what Bro Paul said to Timothy in 1 Timothy 6:10, ” For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” The love of money leads a Man away from God. To use money is a different thing, Jesus also use Money. They kept money, and Judas was the Treasurer. They needed money to live, buy food and clothing and there is nothing wrong in that but to love money is evil. When we Love money and lay up Treasures for myself, then it becomes evil and we cannot love God. Let Him who has ear, hear!!!
Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they derided Him. : if you think that hating money is an extreme teaching, then you belong to the Pharisees because when they heard it, they derided Jesus. That’s is they say, “This is extremism!!! This extreme Preacher from Nazareth has come again, always preaching about hating money again and again. This is a lot of rubbish!!! This is not the truth. This is an interpretation of the Bible which is incorrect!!!” Do you say that when you hear that You have to hate money and material things in order to love God? If yes, then you are in company with the Pharisees. And honestly, there are many Preachers who are Pharisees and they don’t even know it. They Preach in such a way to arouse the Love of money within the members of their church. They are like saying, “God has not called you to make you suffer again but to give you money and make you rich”. They always cite Abraham as an example of a Man who was rich and Yet walked with the Lord. They will never use Paul or Peter as an example. They will never use any of the Apostles as a standard. They will always look for old Covenant Saint as examples. I am not saying those who are rich materially cannot love God. But in most churches now a days, emphasizes is being placed on material things as a mark that God is blessing you which is very Wrong. Those who are poor materially within their midst starts feeling rejected and starts thinking that something is wrong with them. My advise for you, “If you find yourself in a church where material possession is the criteria for judging how much God has blessed you, then you are in a Wrong place!!!” it is better to seat at home than join such a Church. If you remain there, very soon your faith will be corrupted and you will start asking for prove with material things as an indication that God is blessing you.
So Jesus saw that Pharisees having this attitude when he spoke about the Love of money, He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts.: We can accumulate money and justify ourselves in the sight of Men. We can spend money lavishly and love money and justify ourselves before men but God knows our heart. God knows what we are really interested in. Thank God He does not judge by the outward actions. He knows our hearts and what we are really interested in and Living for. You cannot deceive Him. Even if you don’t have much but yet rooted with the Love of money, God sees your Heart. Let us therefore not judge anyone in this area because we don’t know the heart. Leave the matter to God. What is a necessity to someone may be a luxury to another. So you cannot judge by what a man has. Mind your own business and let God judge the Heart.
For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God: To have a lot of money is highly esteemed among men but it is an abomination in the sight of God. To justify ourselves and prove that we are right is a very good way of making ourselves highly esteemed among men but it makes us an abominations in God’s eyes. God hates anything which is highly esteemed among men. How many of us believes that what men value so much is an abomination in the sight of God? Make a list of all the things in your life which man values. Your qualifications, good looks, family rich background, your money and properties, your job and house, Everything that makes you big in the world and in the eyes of worldly people. Now write across the whole List, “An Abomination in the sight of God”. God does not care one bit for your degrees and qualifications, and abilities and talents and your good looks and intelligence, and all these things which men values about you.
Then what is it that is valuable in Heaven and eternity? It is Humility, Love and the Fear of God. Pursue these things. Pursue Holiness and inward purity. These are the things God values. Yet we see many believers running after the wrong things and glory in their position, education, job and what their children have become and how much they have in their bank account. All the Rubbish that have no value in eternity. If we take these things seriously, we can have a Christianity in our land which is purer and which will bring greater Glory to God than what we have seen thus far. This one verse is enough to save us from a lot of wrong understanding. Hear it again, ” For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God” Remember this verse for the rest of your life!!! There is nothing wrong in having Certificates, degree and properties, All these, I have. But don’t glory in them and mediate over it and thinks it has any value before God.
Dear Friend? Have you got the True riches? Are you faithful in little things? Hope you know you can’t love God and money? And have you discovered that every thing which the world esteem highly about you is an abomination before God? How many people have appreciated you for holiness and Humility? Hardly none!!! Even in churches they don’t appreciate that. They prefer to give award to the intelligent Sunday school student than the one who is always coming to wash the toilet every week. Purse Holiness and Humility which the one does not value. Don’t spend your whole life accumulating Abominations in the sight of God. May the Lord give us Grace and wisdom to value what God values in Jesus name.(Amen). God bless you. Have a blessed day.
