Strive to enter through the Narrow Gate!!!
And He went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. Then one said to Him, “Lord, are there few who are saved?”
And He said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from,’ then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’ But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’ There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust out. They will come from the east and the west, from the north and the south, and sit down in the kingdom of God. And indeed there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last.”…… Luke 13:22-30
In our previous study, we considered the Parable of the Mustard Seed and the Leaven and we see how Christian leaders has widen the gate of the Kingdom of Heaven such that it accommodates even Evil Spirit. Today, we shall consider consider what Jesus says about the Narrow Gate.
And He went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. : Jesus was a tireless Preacher, He never took an Holiday. Ever since He was anointed with the Holy Spirit, He went about doing good(Acts 10:38). He never neglected the villages like most of today’s Preacher do. He preached and taught those who live in the Cities and villages. All are the same to Him. No matter where you are, whether in the Cities or in the villages, You can be sure that Jesus will seek after you. Let us therefore look unto Jesus and be more diligent in the task the Lord as given to us for the time is short and the days are coming when it would be impossible. We must have the attitude Jesus had which is,” I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.(John 9:4)”
Then one said to Him, “Lord, are there few who are saved?”: This is a question that many people ask when they compare the standards of God’s word with what they see in people’s lives. They see how high the standard of righteousness is and they wonder how many people will be saved. There are some who are eager to know how the barbarian living in the Jungle will be saved. They ask questions like, “How will God judge those who never heard the Gospel of Christ?” Are you like that? Are you also Longing to have your curiosity satisfied? Do you also want to know how many people will be saved? ” If Yes, then you need to consider careful what Jesus has to say to You.
And He said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. : As if Jesus was saying,” You mind your own business!!! You strive to make sure You enter!!! Don’t worry yourself with the numbers of People that will be saved, Strive for Yourself!!! ” Paul told Timothy something similar in 1 Timothy 4:16,” Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.” we must first take heed to ourselves before we start thinking of how others will be saved.
Notice that this verse shows that there are two sets of Groups who wants to enter Heaven. Those who are SEEKING, and those who are STRIVING. And I began to wonder why those who are seeking to enter were not able to. So I began to ask the Lord “Why?” Lord I thought You said “We should Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness (Matt 6:33). You told us to seek and we will find (Matt 7:7), then Why is it that Many Who seek to enter will not be able to? Why Lord?”
And as I meditate on this, I perceive the Lord was saying ” Truly, All those who seek the kingdom of God find it, but when they got to the entrance into this Kingdom, they discovered that the gate is so NARROW. But Many came to the Narrow Gate with Loads of: Pride, jealousy, bitterness, Love of Money, Selfishness and Hypocrisy. So they seek to enter with all these Loads but could not. So they turned the BROAD Way. Only the Few who gave up ALL their Loads and Strive so hard to enter the Narrow Gate gained access” Are you Seeking or Striving? Are there any Loads you clinging to? Are you willing to pay the price?
When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from? : A day is coming when the door of mercy and grace that is opened to all humans will be shut. Many who were very confident that they should be saved will be rejected in the day of trial, and their confidences will deceive them. Many who despise the Door of Salvation will one day wish that the door be opened to them. Those who never made Jesus the Lord of their lives will one day call unto Him saying, “Lord, Lord, open for us”. Those who never want to be be associated with God’s people here on earth will never be admitted into the gathering of God’s people in Heaven.
The Lord will say to such people, ” ‘I do not know you, where you are from?” 2 Timothy 2:19 says, ” Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” This is how we know whether God knows us or not!!!! It is the attitude we have towards iniquities or Sins. Those who are truly known by the Lord depart from Sins. Those who are really called by the name of the Lord never wants to Sin. And when they Sin, they have no Peace and rest until they Confess and set matters right with God.
then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’ : There are many who glory in the Church activities they are involved in, yet have no personal relationship with the Lord. Many who break bread in the Church are not converted. They go through the Lord’s Supper just like a ritual. They are like Judas who partook of the Lord’s Supper yet betrayed His Master. Many Glory in the sermons they have listened to. They have their head filled up with Bible knowledge yet they lack obedience. Many are like the Devil who knew the Bible so much yet remains the Devil. At the Judgement seat of Christ, it is not how much we ate and drank in God’s presence than will be important neither is it how much sermons we have listened to.
But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’ : There will be a lot of surprises when we stand before the Lord. We will be shocked when those whom we call Saint here on earth will be called, “Workers of iniquity” in Heaven. We will be surprised when the Lord says to some General overseers, “Depart from Me!!!” Now is the time to repent and set things right. What ever Sin is committed in secret will be brought to light before the Lord. Now is the time to depart from Sin. It is either we Depart from the Lord or we Depart from Sin.
There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust out. They will come from the east and the west, from the north and the south, and sit down in the kingdom of God. : There are going to be a lot of regrets at the Judgement seat. When you see those whom you have read and heard about in the Kingdom of God and you being cast out. Many will be admitted from the four corners of the Earth but those who work for sin will be thrown out of the Kingdom.
And indeed there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last: indeed those whom we considered as last here on earth will be the first in Heaven because they have a low estimate of themselves. And God exalts those who are Humble. But many who we think are first will become last because of their pride. Let us therefore work out our Salvation with fear and trembling(Philippians 2:12), that we many be among the first in the Kingdom of our Father.
Dear Friend, strive to enter the Kingdom of God!!! It is not enough to seek, you must strive to enter. Drop every load of sins and cares of this world and pass through the Narrow Gate. Now is the time to do it. Don’t procrastinate your Salvation. May the Lord give us Grace to pass through this Narrow Gate when others turn to the broad way(Amen). God bless you. Have a blessed day.
