Day 178 – The Return of the seventy Disciples!!!

The Return of the Seventy Disciples!!!
Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven……. Luke 10:17-20
In our previous study we considered how Jesus appointed seventy Disciples and sent them out two by two after some people missed the opportunities by giving excuses when the Lord called upon them. Here we read of the excitement that the seventy Disciples returned with and the warning that the Lord gave them.
Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”: Those whom the Lord sent on Mission always have Joy and success in their return. The seventy did not complain of how tedious the journey was, they did not speak about the disappointment they meant on the way, but they returned with Joy and excitement. Serving the Lord is exciting!!! Those who claim to be serving the Lord and Yet keeps complaining about the work are only deceiving themselves. They are either serving themselves or doing what the Lord has not called them to do. I remember the Case of Martha who was complaining that Mary was not joining her in the kitchen is preparing food for Jesus and His Disciples. The Lord said to Her, paraphrasing “Martha, Martha!!! You are worried about some many things? Who send you to cook?(Luke 10:40-41).

What was it that excited the Disciples so much? It was the casting out of Demons!!! Something they have never experienced before in their lives. The fact that Demons were subject to them when they used Jesus name. This of course is very exciting to immature believers that they can handle such power. Do you get excited that you can cast out Demons and work Miracles in Jesus name? Glory to God!!!! But Jesus has something very significant to say to you. We need to pay serious attention to what Jesus said to these seventy lest we go astray in our ministry.
And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.: This was a warning to the Seventy because they said, “Even the Demons are subject to us in Your name”. Jesus sensed in them an element of spiritual pride that they had such authority. And Jesus immediately reminded them of how Satan fell from Heaven. How did Satan fall? He fell through Spiritual Pride. And immediately Jesus warned them about that. I perceive He was saying to them, “You be careful that the same thing doesn’t happen to You”
Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.: This is a tremendous Promise that every Child of God can claim if we have faith that Jesus has given us authority. There is authority we can claim over all the authority of Satan. Whatever Satan and His Host May try to do, it says here, “Nothing shall injury You”. No one can do Black Magic against one who is Cleansed in he Blood of Jesus, walking in the Light and submitted to God. It is impossible for anyone to put a Curse on such a Person or to do any witchcraft against such a person because Jesus has given us authority over all the power of Satan!!! Nothing can touch us or our families and that is why we can live without any fear. A Believer should never never be afraid of Satan and all His Host. Satan who is the Ruler of this World has been Judged already (John 16:11). They were all overcome. Is there any Demon or power and principalities that was not conquered on Calvary? Not at all. Every Demon was defeated!! Colossians 2:14-15 says, “Jesus, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” Hebrews 2:14 says, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”. Satan cannot touch a Believer walking in the Light of God’s word. Revelation 12:11 says,” And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony”. The word of our testimony does not mean giving a testimony in the Church Meetings, it means giving our testimony to Satan that, “He has been Defeated!! That the Blood of Jesus has Cleansed us from all sins and that we have boldness to face Him in the name of Jesus Christ.” Satan has no power over us!!! NOTHING shall hurt you is the promise of Jesus.

But there are very few Believers who believe this and that’s why there are very few Believers who live in the enjoyment of it. It is not enough that God makes a promise to us, the promise can only be fulfill in our lives depending on the measure of our faith. If the rain is falling from Heaven and I go out with a little cup, I will get only a cup of water. But if I go out with a huge tank, I will get a full tank. It is exactly like that. The capacity of our faith determines how much we receive from God. It shall be done to us according to our faith. This is why it is very important to take these promises seriously and say, “Lord I believe that you have given me authority over all the power of the  enemy, any way the Devil tries to touch My Life and my family, I resist the Devil and He has no choice but to flee(James 4:7). The Devil should be afraid of us. Let us therefore claim this Promise and live in triumph and without Fear all the days of our lives.
Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven: How would it be in your case if you cast out a Demon in the name of Jesus? Would it excite you? Then you need to hear the words of Jesus which says, “Do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you!!!” That’s not a very big thing because every Demon has been conquered on Calvary. Every Demon is afraid of the name of Jesus and that’s why they are subject to you. It is nothing to rejoice in. Another reason is that Jesus said that, ” Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you Workers of iniquities”(Matt 7:22-23). These teaches us one very significant truth that, “Even a Man who lives in Sin, one whom Jesus calls,” Workers of iniquities” could cast out demons in the name of Jesus. Listen to me, You don’t have to live a Holy life to cast out Demons in the name of Jesus!!! This is very clear from this verse stated above. Jesus did not say they did not prophesy in His name or cast out demons in His name. They did it but they were still Workers of iniquities!!! Shall we rejoice then that we can cast out demons? We may still be Workers of iniquities, there may be Sin in our lives. The thing that pleases God is inner purity. It is far better to be a person whose Heart is pure who doesn’t cast out demons than one whose heart is sinful and who cast out demons. So we need to have our priorities right.

So what are we to rejoice in then? Jesus says, “Rejoice that Your names are written in Heaven. Rejoice that Your names are in the Book of Life!!” whose name are in the Book of Life? Whose name remains in the Book of Life? Revelation 3:5 says “He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life” This is the Person who can rejoice!!! A Person whose name has not been erase from the book of Life because He has overcome Sin. Not because He has overcome Demons by casting them out of others, but overcome Sins and Lust in his own Flesh. Rejoice in fact that records your name in the book of life!!! That Your Sins has been Cleansed in the Blood of Jesus, that Your garment has been washed by the Blood of the Lamb, that God has selected you to be His Child and has become your Father. These are the things that should bring Joy to the heart of a Christian not the effect of what He does in the name of Jesus, whether it is casting of Demons, healing the Sick or preaching. This is very important for us. We must recognize that that Our Life is Means more to God than our Ministry. And if our Ministry does not flow out of our Life, then it has no Value to God. Even though it may bless others. The people who cast out demons and prophesied in Jesus name that we saw earlier, we can be sure of one thing, that others were blessed by their Ministry but those who performed the Miracles were cast out by the Lord. Let us therefore never evaluate our lives by the effect of our ministry. The freedom we have when we preach the word is not an indication that how happy God is with our lives. We can be Disobedient and God may bless the word because He loves the people.

Notice also that that verse says, “ones name can be blot out of the book of Life”…. Hmmmmm!!! Where are those who says,” Once Saved forever Saved!!! “. How will they explain this? If you don’t walk according to the Light You have received and live as an Overcomer, then it is very possible to that one’s name is blotted out of the book of Life. Do you think Jesus was making an empty threat? I don’t want to risk it!!!! He said that to a Church. Revelation was written to church leaders. If He says that to  Church Leaders, then there is a Great need for us to proclaim it even today. Let us therefore walk as an Overcomer by the Grace and power that is made available to us through the Holy Spirit.
Dear Friend, serving the Lord is exciting and it would give you a lot of very interesting experience. But we must never miss the priority. Our experiences and Miracles should not be an evaluation of how much the Lord is blessed with us. We must never evaluate our lives based on the Miracles and supernatural experience that we have. What should give us Joy is how much we have overcome Sins in our lives as we press on towards perfection. May the Lord give us wisdom never to fear the Devil. But to consistently check our Life and conduct to see if it correlate with those whose name are written in the Book of Life(Amen). God bless you. Have a blessed day.
