Kissing the Master’s Feet!!!
Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to eat. And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil. Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, “This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.”…… Luke 7:36-40
In our last study, we were considering How Jesus raised a Young Man who was  dead out of compassion that He has for His Mother. Here we read of Jesus going to a house where He was invited and how a Woman brought an alabaster oil to anoint and kiss His feet.
Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to eat.: This is the wonderful thing we see about Jesus that He would accept an invitation from almost anyone. Even if they are Sinners and even if they are the Pharisees whom He called a generation of Viper. Jesus long to saved Outright Sinners like prostitute and thieves and He also long to save Pharisees who are religious leaders. There is no partiality with Jesus. He came to save All. He was not against the prostitutes and He was not against the Pharisees. Both needed Salvation and if there is any chance of anyone responding to the truth of the Gospel, Jesus was ready to Go. The more we become Like Jesus, the more we will become impartial towards people. The more we partake of that nature, the more we will long for the Salvation of All humans. Jesus could have rejected the offer because the Pharisees were those who Troubled Him the most but He did not. He accepted It hoping that He might save and bless Him. Let us therefore learn from our Master to accept those who are against us with the aim of leading them to salvation.
And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them  with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil.: This is a Woman who was a well known Sinner in the city probably a Prostitute. It seems that She already met with Jesus in an earlier encounter and have Repented of Her Sins. Notice what she did. She stood behind the Lord. Those whom the Lord has Forgiven see themselves unworthy to look at His face. Those whom the Lord has Forgiven see themselves unworthy to stand before Him. True Repentance makes us feel ashamed of all our pass Failures. True Repentance makes us see our unworthiness to behold His Face. We should count it as a great privilege that in the New Covenant we are told to come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need(Hebrews 4:16). Also, it was said that she was Weeping. Mourning and tears are always found in the eyes of those who are repenting of their Sins. There is a blessedness in Mourning for our Sins. It brings comfort from the Lord. Indeed, blessed are those Who mourn for they shall be comforted(Matt 5:4). Her face of beauty that she once adorn with makeups and powder is now filled with Tears. The eyes she once used to draw others to Sin is now swollen with tears of how much the Lord has done for Her. She brought an alabaster flask of expensive oil. Probably the one she was using formally to entice Men. Her hair that was her glory and beauty became a rag fit for nothing but the Lord’s feet. In the same way, Her mouth which she once used in calling onto Men and kissing them was now something for the Lord’s feet. This is the result of true Repentance!!! No wonder Paul says in Philippians 3:7-8, ” But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ”. Everything we once cherished becomes Rubbish if we have truly met with the Lord.
Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, “This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner:  Although this Man invited Jesus to eat in His house, yet He did not believe in Jesus. He was quick to judge others in His Heart. He saw this repented Sinner at the feet of Christ and He began to judge Her in His Heart. Permit me to ask you, “Do you judge others because of their past Failures? Do you look at those whom you have known before as a Sinner with Contempt now that they have repented?” We must always be careful not to judge those whom the Lord has Forgiven lest we come under great condemnation. Imagine you are in a Church and a well known Prostitute whom You have always known came around giving up her expensive items to the Lord. What will be your immediate reaction? If you judge Her in your heart, then you are a Pharisee. If the Lord has accepted her, then what is your headache? All the Sins we have repented of and confessed to the Lord, He says He will remember them no more(Hebrews 8:12).

Guess what, When we stand before the Lord on Judgement Day and the Video of our lives is being played for the whole world to see, All the Sins we repented of and confessed to JESUS will not be displayed. I am absolutely convinced of this!!! Those places will be blank. And I am sure people like these Pharisee will say within their Heart that, “Why is that place blank?” and the Lord will say to them, “I Have Forgiven Him. Do you have any problem with that?” Let us therefore never Judge others for their past Failures because if they have repented of it and confessed it to the Lord, He has chosen not to remember it anymore!!!
Dear Friend, this is true Repentance!!! Repentance is turning around from all that displeases the Lord. Repentance is offering our whole body as a living sacrifice onto the Lord. It is saying to the Lord, ” This is my Eyes, I give it to You Lord. This is my mouth, I only want to use it for you. This is my ears, only that which pleases you will I listen to. This is my Beauty and Money, I want to use it to expand your Kingdom”. This is true Repentance!!! May the Lord give us Grace to give to the Lord all that we ever cherish(Amen). God bless You. Have a blessed day.
