Simeon sees the Salvation of the Lord!!!
And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said: “Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word; For my eyes have seen Your salvation Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel.”. And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him. Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” ……. Luke 2:25-35
In our last study, we were considering the circumcision of Jesus and the sacrifice offered in the day of His purification. We noted that Mary and Joseph could not afford a Lamb because of their poverty so they got turtledoves or pigeons. Showing how Christ Humbled Himself even as a little Child to become an Example for Us. Here we read of a Man called Simeon who got Revelation about Christ and came to the Temple.
And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.: Here is another Godly Man like the Shepherds waiting for the coming of the Messiah. And it was said that He was Just, Devout and the Holy Spirit was upon Him. A beautiful expression that should be written about us in these days as we wait for the second coming of Christ. !!! Just imagine it was written about You and I that, “There is a Man or woman living in such a place who was Righteous, Devout, Looking for the coming of the Lord and the Holy Spirit is upon Him”. This is the best way to wait for the Coming of the Lord. Those who are waiting for the Coming of the Lord must seek to be just and righteous before the Lord in Everything they do. Those who have this Great living hope of seeing Jesus Face to Face when He returns must purify themselves Just as He Is Pure(1 John 3:3). Those who desire to reign with Him must retain the Holy Spirit upon and within them because the Holy Spirit is that which will strengthen us to endure until the end.
And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.: Those who have the Holy Spirit upon them gets revelation from Heaven. The Holy Spirit has revealed to Him that, He shall not Die Until the Messiah is Born. Those who did not see Jesus in their heart with their eye of faith before they die are doom. We must ensure we see the Lord with the eyes of our heart before we Die.. Only those who have seen the Lord can have courage to face death when it comes.
So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law he took Him up in his arms and blessed God: Those who desire to meet With Jesus must go into the Temple in the Spirit. There are many who come to the Presence of the Lord when the Church meets and Yet did not find Jesus. There are many who Sing in the Church Meetings and Yet did not come in touch with Christ because they were not sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Simeon was able to discern that this little baby Jesus was the Messiah because He came in the Spirit. Out of the Many Children who were brought to the Temple that day, He recognized Him. It is the same even today, God fearing people who are looking for the body of Christ in their Locality, the Holy Spirit always give them a sign when they come into a gathering that, “This is the body of Christ”. It is only for those who are looking for the True body of Christ that such a revelation is given.
So He took the Child into His hands and blessed God. Notice, what the Holy Spirit revealed to Him was that “He was Going to See the Messiah before death” not “He was going to touch the Messiah”. But here we see Him carrying Jesus in his arm. Indeed our God is a good God!!! He do for us more than He has promised. No Wonder Ephesians 3:20-21 says, ” Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
and He said: “Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word; For my eyes have seen Your Salvation Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel.”:
: Simeon Blessed God for being faithful to His Word. God promised Him that He will see the Messiah before Death and He did. Every single Promise that the Lord has promised in His words will definitely come to pass. Though it tarries, it will come to pass. Those who put their trust, hope and confidence in God’s word will never be put to shame. If the Lord has said, “Sin Shall not have Dominion over You(Romans 6:14),He will bring it to pass. If the Lord has said,” He will cause all things to work together for Good(Romans 8:28),He will fulfill it. None of God’s word will go unfulfilled. Simeon could bless God after He saw the fulfillment of it but we who have entered the New Covenant and believe that what God has promised He will do, can bless the Lord in advance for things He has promised. Knowing fully well that He will do it.
He said, “Let your Servant depart in peace for my eyes have seen the Salvation of the Lord”. The World becomes a Small thing for those who have Christ in their arms and Salvation in their eyes. All the glories and beauties of this world becomes like trash bin when we fix our eyes on Jesus. Those who have found Christ lose taste of all that the World has to offer. Jesus offers a Salvation that takes away the Fear of Death(Hebrews 2:15). To Die becomes a gain to all those who have seen the Salvation of the Lord. No wonder Brother Paul said, ” For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.(Philippians 1:21-23)”. Let us therefore be fully assured that if we have accepted Jesus as Our Lord and Saviour and have received Him by walking in Humility and fear of the Lord, we can certainly Welcome Death and perfect from Earth in peace.
Another thing to note is that this Salvation was prepared before the face of All the people. It was not hidden from people. It was a light shining for all Gentiles to see. This Salvation is not restricted to the people of Israel, it was revealed to the whole world. Those who willingly shut their eyes to the Light of the Gospel of Christ will have themselves to blame.
Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”: We can apply this not only to Christ but also His Church which is His Spiritual body. The Church is destined for the Rising and falling of Many. Those who have fallen into Sin can be raised and those who are proud will be brought low. Jesus was opposed particularly when He started His Ministry and the True body of Christ is opposed even today. Many have spoken against the body of Christ just like Jesus was spoken against and called, “Prince of Demons”. Simeon told Mary that a sword will Pierce through Her soul. Indeed there is suffering even today for those who bear the Church which is the body of Christ. But when this happens, the thoughts of many hearts will he revealed. It is when we are misunderstood, oppose, reject and even suffer that God uses all that to reveal the thoughts in people’s heart. It is as people see us enduring the Cross and despising the shame that the Evil thoughts in their hearts becomes revealed to them. It is as we bear in our body the dying of Jesus that the Life of Jesus that reveals people’s heart will become Manifest in our body(2 Corinthians 4:10-11). Let us therefore allow the Sword to Pierce our Hearts so that the thought in people’s hearts might be revealed to them and they will fall down on their faces Worshipping God and saying, “The Lord is truly among You” (1 Corinthians 14:25).
Dear Friend, I hope Your eyes have seen the Salvation of the Lord? I hope you can now raise up Your voice and say boldly, “My eyes have seen the Salvation of the Lord!!”. May none of us come short of the Salvation which Christ brings for all people.(Amen). God bless you. Have a blessed day.
