There was No Lamb!!!
And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord,  “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”), and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”……. Luke 2:21-24
In our previous study, we considered how an Angel appeared to the Shepherds at night, and how they left their flock finding the particular Manger where the Messiah was born. Teaching us that we must considered revelation from Heaven more important than our earthly task. Today, we shall consider the circumcision and purification of Mary and the Child.
And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.: Just as we saw in the case of John the Baptist the Jews named their Children the day they were circumcised. Jesus was also circumcised and named. Remember There was nothing special about Him. He looked exactly like every other Jewish child. He submitted to the law of circumcision like every other Jewish kid. Galatians 4:4 says, ” But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.”. Jesus was subjected to the Law for the New Covenant has not yet been established. He submitted to the Hard yoke of the Law that we might be free to enter Grace.
Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord,  “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”), and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”: This Law was described in Leviticus 12: 1-8. According to the Law, those who are rich could bring a Lamb but those who could not afford a Lamb because of the price can bring a turtledoves or two young pigeons. (Leviticus 12:8).

So Mary and Joseph could not afford a Lamb so we read here in Luke that they brought turtledoves or Pigeons. This teaches us something of the tremendous poverty of the Home of Joseph and Mary. No doubt, if they could have afforded at least a Lamb for Jesus which was the Son of God they would have brought it. Behold the type of Home God the Father selected for Jesus. A very poor home. Indeed Christ was made poor that we might become Rich. He came below everyone of Us so that He might lift us all up. From His Birth to His death was a life full of reproach. At His birth, there was No Room(Luke 2:7). On the Day of His purification, there was No Lamb. Throughout His Life, He had no place to lay His Head(8:20). In the synagogue, the Chief priest and the Pharisees gave Him No space to speak so He often use the sea side. He had no money to pay the temple tax so He sent Peter to go catch a fish(Matt 17:26). During the Last Supper, He had to borrow a Room(Matt 26:18). At His burial, He was laid in a borrowed tomb(27:60). Behold the Humility of Christ!!! Yet He never complained or Sin. No wonder He got the Highest Position in Heaven as a Man. He was the Humblest Man who ever walked on Earth. No wonder He never sinned. For God gives Grace to the Humble, and as Long as He was under Grace, Sin never had power over Him. (Romans 6:14).

The only thing that added value and meaning to the Life of Jesus was that, “God was with Him”. The only thing  Jesus had was the beauty and glory of Heaven. This is the Man set before us as an Example to Follow. He proved through His life that there are some things on Earth that is not as important as we think. Where you were born is not important, the city or town You live is not important, whether your parents could afford a Lamb on the day of your dedication or not is not important. Whether You have a house of your own is not important. Whether you have a place to be buried is not important!!! The Most important thing on Earth is that, “The Lord is with You”. And if we constantly set the Lord before us in every situation that we find ourselves, we will have nothing to complain about. Let us therefore Humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God and the Difficult circumstances He leads us through and He will exalt us Over all Sins. The Greatest thing to be exalted over in Life is Sin not people. Those who want to Humble themselves so that the Lord will exalt them over others and make them leaders are yet to understand the Principle in the New Covenant.
Dear Friend, Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God(Hebrew 12:1-2). May the Lord give us Grace that we might Learn Humility from Jesus to follow in His Footsteps all the days of our Life(Amen).
