The Blind Man in the City of Bethsaida!!!
Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him. So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything. And he looked up and said, “I see men like trees, walking. ” Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly. Then He sent him away to his house, saying,“Neither go into the town, nor tell anyone in the town.”….. Mark 8:22-26
In our previous study, we see Jesus healing a Man who was deaf and unable to speak by touching His tongue with His Saliva. Which symbolizes a Transmission of a Life that Jesus carry which can set us free from every form of bondage of the Devil. Here, we read of a similar case of Jesus spitting on a blind Man’s Face. And the Most significant thing about this particular Miracle is that, “This is the Only time Jesus prayed for someone and the Person was not Healed Completely instantly”. Interesting!!! What could have caused it? I can’t imagine Jesus praying for someone and the Sickness refusing to go. There is something the Lord is trying to teach us in this Miracle. Let us therefore open our Hearts to discern what the Lord is trying to say to us.
Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him.: For us to have a perfect understanding of this Miracle, we must consider the Town called Bethsaida. This is because before Jesus healed the Man, He took Him outside the town, and also after Jesus healed this Man of His blindness, He told Him never to enter that town again. Why all these? What could be wrong with this town called, “Bethsaida”? We read in Matthew 11:20-21, that,” Jesus began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent: “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, BETHSAIDA! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.” So Bethsaida is among the Cities which have seen most of the Miracles of Jesus yet they have failed to Repent. Bethsaida is a city filled with people who are not repenting of their Sins. Bethsaida is a System where Sin is not judged despite Jesus had done Miracles for them. Bethsaida could be a Church filled up with a group of people who have failed to repent of their Sins.

So in Bethsaida, there lived a Blind man who was brought to Jesus by His friends since He could not come to Jesus by Himself. Probably, those that brought Him to Jesus and begged Jesus to touch Me were the few who repented in Bethsaida or maybe they just came to visit Him in the city. Those whose eyes has been opened to spiritual things must desire that the eyes of their friends be opened also. Those have seen the Glory and beauty of the Lord must pray and beg the Lord to lay hold of their friends and relatives..
So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town.: The first step Jesus takes in healing this Man is to take Him out of a Place where they have not repented. He takes Him outside a system where Sin is not judged. He took Him out of a group of people who have despise the Miracles and mercies of God instead of repenting of their Sins. The first step to spiritual sight is breaking Fellowship with those who have failed to repent. Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?(2 Corinthians 6:14-15). “Come out from among them. And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.” I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty”(2 Corinthians 6:17-18). Come out of a church group where Repentance is not preached!!! The Lord is seeking to take out those who are spiritually blind in a church that has failed to repent. Notice that the Lord took the blind Man Himself and led him outside the city. The Lord is interested in each Man’s Case. He is particularly interested in the case of those who have a Longing for Spiritual sight. Even if they find themselves in a Church where Repentance is not emphasized, He Lord seeks to Lead them out of such Church.
And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything. : Again we see Jesus applying His Saliva on a Man’s Face. This is something symbolic. It is a Picture of something flowing out of Christ to heal this Man. It is as the Life of Jesus rubs upon our face that our eyes becomes open to see His glory and beauty. It is as we partake of the Divine nature of Christ that we begin to understand spiritual truths. Unless we eat and drink His blood, there is no life in us. Then the Lord asked If He saw anything. In all our encounter with the Lord, this is the question He asks, “Do You see anything?” Do you discover any New area where You have not be perfected? Do You see any area in your Life where You need to ask God for Mercy? Do You see anything?
And he looked up and said, “I see men like trees, walking.”: This is the Only case We read of Jesus laying Hands on someone and the person says He is not healed completely. Why? It is because of Lack of faith on the Part of this Man!!! He had spent so much time among those who have not repented to the point that He could not have faith to be Healed at once. He had dwelt so Long among Sinners that opening His Heart to receive what the Lord has for Him became a problem to Him. He said, “I see Men, walking Like Tress”. There are many whom the Lord has touched even today but yet not seeing clearly. It one thing to be touched by the Lord, it is another thing to see clearly. There are many believers who see but not clearly. They are yet to know the Difference between Men and Trees. They have not come to understand that People are more important than material things. They have not come to know the difference between Temporal things and eternal things. They have not come to know the difference between the Old Covenant and the new Covenant. They have not come to see Jesus as both God and Man. If You ask them what the new Covenant entails, they don’t know. To them, it is just the story of Jesus. They don’t know the difference between Spiritual Blessing and Material Blessing. Everything looks the same to them. This is the condition of all those who stay in a church and system where Repentance is not preached. This is the condition of all those who attends a Church where they are not pressing towards perfection. Truly they have been touched by the Lord, but Yet are not seeing Clearly. Thank God this Man was Honest about His condition!!! He was not trying to keep a reputation that “How will Jesus feels if I say I am not seeing clearly”. He shouted, “I see Men walking like Tress oo”. I am not seeing Clearly Lord”. Jesus needs honest people like this who will admit that they don’t see clearly. He needs believers who have been touched once but still see that they have not been made whole. Let us therefore be honest when the Lord says to us, “Do You see Anything?”. Let us be quick to admit the areas in our Lives where we are not seeing Clearly.
Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly: interesting!!! There are some Preachers today who says, “When You are not healed completely, You should say, ‘I am healed'”. They call it “Word of Faith”, but I called it “Word of Dishonesty” to say I am Healed when I am not healed. And Jesus did not encourage this Man to tell a Lie. He didn’t say, “No!!! don’t say You can’t see Clearly!!! Have faith!!! Say You can see Clearly!!!” instead, Jesus appreciated the Man’s Honesty and said, “OK, You are not healed fully, then I will lay hands on You again!!!” So Jesus laid His hands on Him the second time and He was restored and saw Clearly!!! This is the place the Lord is seeking to lead us to. A place where we begin to see Everything clearly. A place where we begin to see clearly why we should Love our enemies and bless those who curse us. A place where we begin to see clearly that God makes all things to work out for the good of those who love Him. A place where we can give Him thanks in Everything and all situations. Only those who see clearly can accept and understand some Truths and commands in the New testament. Those who don’t see clearly will argue and argue on how impossible it is to keep some commands in the Bible. It is foolishness to argue with such people. Only a fool will argue with a blind Man about the colour of a book.
Then He sent him away to his house, saying,“Neither go into the town, nor tell anyone in the town.”: I perceive Jesus was saying to the Man, “Don’t go back to that City where they lack Repentance. Don’t tell them about Your Spiritual sights. Don’t go back and have Fellowship with them in that church where Repentance is not Preached. Don’t go back to them lest You lose Your sight again”. If The Lord has given You Spiritual sight and You still seek to keep Fellowship with Sinners, Very soon You will go blind again. If the Lord has opened Your eyes to great Spiritual truths and Yet you sit in a church where Repentance is not preached and where they are not pressing towards perfection, you will lose those truth soon. Let us therefore seek to find a Church where Repentance and pressing on to perfection is their Major message lest we lose our sights.
Dear Friend, Have You been touched by the Lord once before but Yet You can’t see Clearly. Have You become born again but Yet not knowing the difference between Spiritual things and Physical things. Have you read Your Bible and Yet keep asking, why God has commanded us to Love our enemies and hate Money?. Then you need another touch from the Messiah. You need a touch that would make you see everything clearly. You need to say to the Lord, “Touch Me again O Lord!!! If You need to touch Me 100 times, here I am Lord, I go nowhere.” May the Lord give us Grace to to separate ourselves from those who are not repenting and never to return to them after You have laid hands upon Us.(Amen). God bless you. Have a blessed day.
