The Healing of a Deaf-Mute Man!!!
Again, departing from the region of Tyre and Sidon, He came through the midst of the region of Decapolis to the Sea of Galilee. Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue. Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly. Then He commanded them that they should tell no one; but the more He commanded them, the more widely they proclaimed it. And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.”…….. Mark 7:31-37
Continuing Our study, Here we see Jesus healing a Man in a very unusual Way. But we must always bear in mind that spiritual things are spiritually discern and the natural Man cannot understand it. Let us therefore see what we can learn from this that can help us become more like Jesus.
Again, departing from the region of Tyre and Sidon, He came through the midst of the region of Decapolis to the Sea of Galilee.: Jesus was just returning from the region of Tyre and Sidon where He Walked about a Day Journey to Help a woman whose Daughter was Demon-possessed. One would have thought He should have been so tired a weak and should have time for nothing else but sleep. But Yet we see Him meeting other people’s need. This is how Jesus lived His Life. He went about during good. It was written about Him in Acts 10:38 saying, ” how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” Don’t ever ask the Lord to anoint You with the Holy Spirit if you have no interest of going around to be a blessing to others. The Mark of a Spirit Filled Believer is that He goes around doing good to people and setting those who are in the grips of the Devil Free. He is never tired of meeting people’s need. His food is to do the Will of the Father and finish the work God has given Him to do just like Jesus(John 4:34). Let us therefore be sensitive and allow the Holy Spirit to lead us to people whose need we can meet.
Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. : We were not told if this deafness or impediment of speech was as a result of Sin or physical defects. For Not all Sickness or defects are caused as a result of Sin. But for our own instruction, let’s assume that this was caused by Sin. For this is exactly what the Devil seeks to do to any man or woman who is a Slave to Sin. Devil seeks to make a Man deaf to the voice of God when by leading Him into Sin. Those who are Slave to Sin are Deaf to the voice of conscience. Sin makes the Voice of God a thing to be afraid of. Adam said to God in Eden, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.(Genesis 3:10)”. In the Same way, Devil seeks to shut our mouth from singing praises to our God. Once our relationship and fellowship with the Lord is broken by Sin, we find it very hard to pray and Sing Praises to the Lord. Even it would take a Special Grace of God to be able to open our mouth to confess such a Sin to God. Haven’t You noticed it also Yourself, how you find it difficult to sing Praise and Pray when You are living in Sin. Let us therefore seek to keep our conscience Clear at all times. Let us say, “No” to any temptation that seek to make us deaf to the voice of God and shut our mouth from Singing the Praises of His Holy name. Let us seek to bring to all those around us who are in the grip of Satan to the Lord in prayer. Let us plead with the Lord on their behalf in the place of prayer. Just a touch from God is enough to set them free.
And He took him aside from the multitude: Those who want the Lord to touch them must be willing to be separated from the Multitude. Those whom the Lord seeks to bless and use, He sets aside from the crowd. Are you willing to be separated from the Multitude of Sinners? Are you willing to break your relationship with those who pull you down into Sins? This is the first step towards deliverance from Sin. Hear the instruction given by the Holy Spirit in 2 Corinthians 5:17-18, He says, ” “Come out from among them. And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.” I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty”. Also we see the Humility of Christ who will never do a Miracle to impress anyone or get Honour for Himself. He lived before God’s face and only seek to glorify God. Let us therefore learn to do our good deed in secret before God alone.
And put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue. : Here we see something unusual. Jesus could have healed this Man with just a Word like He had done most times but Here He took another method to teach us a Spiritual truth. Jesus spat and touched his tongue with it. It is a symbol of transmission of Life from His body to the Man’s body. Jesus imparted something of His Life in this Man. This is how the Lord seeks to save us from the grip of the Devil. It is by partaking of that Life in which Jesus carried. It is by partaking of the Divine nature. 2 Peter 1:3-4 says, ” His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the Corruption that is in the world through lust.” let us therefore seek to partake more and more of the Life that Flows from Christ, let us feed on Him as the bread of Life, let us drink His blood for it is the source of Life to us. The more we become partakers of His Divine Life, the more we are sanctified and set apart for His glory.
Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.”: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning(James 1:17). In all our problems, we must look towards Heaven for Help. For without Him, we can do Nothing!!! The Lord sighed and look with pity on those who have been made deaf and mute by Sin. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, Yet Without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need(Hebrews 4:15-16). Jesus knows exactly how it feels to be tempted and He looks with pity and sigh for those who have fallen. Then He said, “Be Opened”. Blessed is the Man or Woman whom the Lord has commanded saying, “Be opened”. All those who have come to respond to the Gospel of Christ is because the Lord has commanded their Heart, eyes, ear and mouth to be opened. It is God’s goodness and kindness upon us that leads us to Repentance(Romans 2:4). Let us therefore remain Humble and look upon others with compassion.
Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly. Then He commanded them that they should tell no one; but the more He commanded them, the more widely they proclaimed it.: Glory to God!!! All the Miracles of Jesus was immediately. There is nothing like gradual healing with Jesus. Anyone He prayed for is instantly Healed. Not after 5 months or so. We can be sure that any problem we tender before the Lord will receive an instant solution from the Lord. Another thing we see about Jesus is HE never wanted anybody to know because that is not what He primarily came for. What Jesus came for was to lead Men to Salvation from Sin. We must come to the Lord for the reason in which He came to us. We must get this straight that Jesus came primarily to save people from Sin(Matt 1:21). All other things that we receive from the Lord is to lead us to a place where we become saved from Sin.
And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.”: Wonderful Words they said about Jesus!!! They said, “He has done All things Well”. When they saw His Miracles, they gave this wonderful Comment about Him. But today, a Man of faith rises far above this level. Today, we can say, “Jesus has done All things well” even when things don’t go as we expected. Any unconverted person can say, “Jesus has done all things well” when His material needs are met. But it takes a Man of faith to say that when there is no food to eat, and no clothes to wear. Romans 8:28 says, ” And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” This is what we shall say in all eternity in Heaven when we look back on our Earthly Life. We shall say, “Jesus has done All things Well” A Man of faith can say it now. We don’t have to get to Heaven before we start saying it. If we are True Disciples of Christ and believe in the Promises written in the Scriptures, then no matter the circumstances and difficulties we find ourselves presently, we can say, “He has done All things Well”.
Dear Friend, Jesus is the same, Yesterday, Today and forever. He is Still in the business setting people free from the grip of the Devil. He still has the power and authority to say to Your Ears, eyes, Heart and Mouth, “Be Opened.”. Come to Him and be willing to be separated from the Multitude. Break away from everything that causes you to Sin and He will give You that Life that dwells in Him. Become Partaker of the Divine Nature and at the end of Your Life when You look back to All the Difficulties, Delays, Persecution and difficult circumstances that you faced, You can say, “Truly, The Lord has done All things Well!!! Everything that Happened in My Life Worked out for My very best”. May The Lord give us Grace to apply these truths to our lives(Amen). God bless You. Have a blessed day.
#Everyday with Jesus.
