Day 117 – Giving to Caesar what belongs to Caesar!!!

Giving to Caesar what belongs to Caesar!!!
Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk.  And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men. Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me You hypocrite? Show Me the tax money.” they brought Him a denarius. And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?”They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left Him and went their way…… Matthew 22:15-22
In our previous studies, We have been considering the different Parables that Jesus spoke in order to show the Sin of the Nation of Israel and the Judgement of God on them and how God opened the way of Salvation to the Gentile Nations. Here we see Jesus been questioned whether it is Lawful to pay tax to Caesar or not.
Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk: In Following the Life of Jesus, we see the way that Religious people approach Him and we who seek to be Disciples of Jesus today can learn many lessons for ourselves. Because it is the same experience we have today with a lot of religious people who have no interest in becoming Disciples of Jesus. Very often we find religious people seeking to trap us in something that we say. Religious people who don’t like Preachers who preach Holiness and Victory over Sins and building the body of Christ and freedom From the Love of Money always like to ask those who Preach such questions just to trap them.
And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians: They wanted to trap Jesus into saying something which would bring the wrath of the government against Him. And this is also a trick that Religious people will try today. Religious groups are like, “If we can just get the government itself to turn against this group, that will be the end of it”.
saying, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men. : They started with their Hypocritical flattering. Be careful whenever anyone comes and praise you like that. Such people are your greatest enemies. People who talk in that Language, “You are the greatest Man of God I know”. Be careful. They think that they can get Jesus to reply their questions by first flattering Him. But Jesus can see through all that. And a True Disciple of the Lord must also take heed to see through the flattering of others. If not, You will get trapped.
Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” : This was what they wanted to ask, but what is the need for all those introductory flattering? It was to get Jesus weak so that He will give a foolish answer. They did not realize that Christ was far above all these flattering and praise of Men. Seek to be free from the opinion of Men and you will make less mistakes in your speech. People may want to appreciate us and thank us for what we have done for them. We don’t have to stop them, we don’t have to tell them to keep quiet. It is a right thing for people to express thankfulness and appreciate us for the benefit they have gotten through us, but we must be careful that it does not go into our head. Give the Glory to God immediately.

Considering the Question, ” Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” whatever He says, He is going to be caught. If he says” No “, the government can say,” You are teaching people not to pay their taxes” and if He says “Yes”, they would say Jesus was trying to teach the Jews to serve the Roman rulers who have come to rule their country. They are trying to get either of both parties against Jesus.
But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me You hypocrite? Show Me the tax money.” they brought Him a denarius.: Can you imagine there is wickedness in those who flatter us in order to trap us with questions? We need discernment to be able to see this Wickedness. All those who ask questions only to find fault in us and test us are Hypocrites.
And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?”They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.: what an answer!!! Luke 21:15, the Lord has promised us saying, ” for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist”. Jesus was never trapped because He depended on the Holy Spirit. He never sought to lean on His own reasoning. And the Holy Spirit always give Him wisdom to escape the trap of religious people. If we seek to walk in Humility and in the Footsteps of Jesus, the Holy Spirit will give us the same wisdom to shut the mouth of our enemies.

What does it mean to “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to give to God what belongs to God?” Very Simple. Give to the government what is rightly due to them. Pay Your taxes!!! Pay your taxes first even before You give anything to God. Give to Caesar first before you even think of giving to God. Another way we can apply this is that pay up your debt first. Go to that person you are owing and pay up. Don’t drop your offering into the box if you have not settled Caesar what is owed to Him. Many have interpreted this verse to mean giving bribes to people. Well, they are not walking in the footsteps of Jesus and His Apostles who choose to rather die in prison than to bribe the King. Felix could have released Paul from prison if only Paul had given him some money(Acts 24:26). But Paul would not. Paul could have easily quoted the words of Jesus saying, “I am giving what belongs to Caesar to Caesar, so that I can be freed to give what belongs to God to God”. This is how many have Misinterpreted the words of Jesus and used this verse as an excuse for bribing. Well, I am not surprised The Devil quoted the Bible to Jesus to lead Him astray. And I am 100% certain that those who use this verse as a backup for their unrighteous dealings are being inspired by the Devil. Instead of bribing, why not just have faith that, “Maybe God does not want me to have this particular thing?” or Go to God in prayer for the Hearts of Kings are in His Hands. Let us therefore never come to Scriptures looking for a verse to backup our wrong action. It is far better to acknowledge that our faith is not that strong to wait upon God without giving bribe to anyone than to joke over Sins and quote a verse for backup.
Dear Friend, are You owing Caesar? Are You owing anyone? Is there something You have borrowed and you have failed to return? Are you cheating the Government in remitting Your tax? God’s will is that we owe no man anything. Owe no government anything. Imagine You are about Entering Heaven and someone comes to God and lodged a complain against you that You were owing Him some money while on Earth!!! How will you settle that? This is the time to clear your Bills!!! Give to Caesar what belongs to Him. Save Your Offerings to settle Your Debts!!! God does not want Your Money if You are still owing Caesar!!! May the Lord quicken our Spirit to settle all that we owe. May the Lord provide us with Grace to live an upright and uncompromising Life in this generation that we find ourselves. (Amen). God bless you. Have a blessed day.
