Day 090 – Jesus and Peter Walks on the Sea!!!

Jesus and Peter Walks on the Sea!!!
Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus…… Matthew 14:22-33.
In our last study, we see Jesus feeding the Multitude that followed Him miraculously with Five loaves and two fishes. Here, we read of a great incident that happened immediately after the feeding of the Five Thousand. We see Jesus walking upon the Sea and Peter being partakers of the same experience. Let us therefore open our hearts for instructions. For if Peter did it, why can’t we?
Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray: immediately what? Immediately He has feed about Five thousand Men besides women and Children. This is something Jesus often did after He has done some tremendous Miracle like healing many sick people(Luke 5:15-16)or feeding the Multitude. He will withdraw Himself to get alone with the Father in prayer. And I have been wondering why? I perceive Jesus was tempted to be Proud. For the Bible says, “He was tempted at all Points just as we are(Hebrews 4:15)”.Supposing You have fed Five thousand people with Five loaves and two fishes, won’t You be tempted to be proud?, If you had healed about 100 people miraculously, wouldn’t you be tempted to be proud about it? Definitely You would be tempted!!! So Jesus was tempted to get proud just like Us but He never became proud because immediately after the Miracles, He get alone with the Father and give Him the Glory and acknowledge that it was through His power that those Miracles were done. This should be our practice also that after God has used us, whether in preaching, singing, Miracles etc, we should get alone with Him immediately to give Him the Glory. Also Remember that Christ lived on Earth as a Man so He needed to Pray. This is why He never Sinned in His entire life. He always look for a lonely place where He could cry out to the Father. And Do you know what He was praying for? Hebrews 5:7 tells us, ” Jesus, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear” So Jesus will always go to lonely place to pray to the Father to save Him from Sin which causes Spiritual death. And He was heard!!! Why are you crying out to God? Is it to be saved from Spiritual death or because somebody cheated you or insulted you? If Jesus who had never Sinned in His life created time to pray and be alone with the Father, why shouldn’t we? Prayer is the expression of weakness and dependence on  God. It is only a weak person who creates time to pray. It is because we think we are strong that we don’t pray so much. It is because we think we are so capable that we don’t depend upon God for our service. And this is why we frequently fall into pride and many other Sins. Jesus recognized His limitations as a Man. That’s why He told his Disciples to “Watch and Pray lest you fall into temptation(Matt 26:41). Let us therefore learn from Jesus to send people away or withdraw ourselves from the Multitude that we may get alone with the Father to renew our strength.
But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.: Recall that it was Jesus that MADE(Compelled, forced) His Disciples to get into the boat. This means His Disciples did not want to go but since He Compelled them, they went. There are times the Lord tells us to go somewhere and we don’t want to go and then He Compels us. Although we may still refuse because He does not take away our freewill but He urges us still to go. But it is interesting to see that Although they obeyed the instructions of Jesus, yet the boat was tossed by the Wind and wave. Many people think that when we follow Jesus and obey Him, Life would become easy. But quite the contrary, He Compelled them to go and when they went they found out that the wind was against them. It is when we obey the Lord that we find that we run into storms of life and God has designed it to teach us a lesson. Who are the people that have the easiest time on Earth? It is the Sinners who disobeyed the Lord completely. Jesus says, “In the World, You shall have tribulation, but in Me, You will have peace (John 16:33)” Earthly problems are faced more by whole-hearted Disciples than those who are not seeking to do the will of God. Those who have never experienced the storms have little experience to share of how the Lord saw them through. In the middle of the storm, we can experience the presence of the Lord to encourage us.

In the Middle of the storm, Jesus came to them walking on the Sea. Every Miracle of Jesus is a Parable. This Miracle is a Great Parable. Remember that Jesus was a Man so He was walking on water not with the powers He has as God. He Walked on Water as a Man with the supernatural abilities given by the Holy Spirit to overcome the law of gravity. And the prove was that He told Peter that Peter could do the same. Peter was not the Son of God but Peter also walked on water with the same power that Jesus walked on water. And this is very significant for Us. So what can we learn from Jesus overcoming the Law of Gravity? There is another Law very Similar to the Law of Gravity. It is called the Law of Sin and Death(Romans 8:2).The Law of Sin and Death also pull us down to Sin just like the Law of Gravity pulls us down. And When Jesus came to Earth with our flesh, He was tempted and subject to this Law of Sin also, but He never sank!!! He overcame. He was tempted and pulled by Sin downwards but He overcame and walked in triumph every moment. And the interesting thing is that He told Peter He could do the same also.
And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”:  In the midst of the storm, all we need to hear from the Lord is, “It is I”. Jesus need not mention His name like He did to Paul on His way to Damascus(Acts 9:5).His sheep recognize His Voice. Jesus is nearer to Us than We think, so we need not fear Ghost!!! If you fear God, You don’t need to fear any other thing!!!
And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.:Here comes the Greater Miracle than Jesus walking on the Sea. For Jesus to walk on the sea is not such a great thing but for Peter to walk on the same sea is an amazing thing. For Jesus to overcome the Law the Sin and Death is not such a great thing but for You and I to overcome Sin is an amazing thing!!! Bold Christians look up to Jesus and say Like Peter,”Lord if You Lived on Earth as a Man and You have the resources that is made available to all Christians through the power of the Holy Spirit today, then make me also step out and overcome the Law of Sin and Death like You did. If you can do it, then I can do it!!!” This is the boldness of faith and Peter was the one who said it. The others were like, “We are not so sure, we had better stay in the Comfort of this boat” But Peter was Like, “Lord, if you can do it, I can do it!!! Tell me to come!!” And the Lord said to Him, “Come”. I want to say to You My Brother’s and Sisters that if only You will hear that Word. Some of You who are defeated by Sin and the Law of Sin is always pulling You down every single day, and You are always falling and falling and getting discouraged. The Lord is saying to You today, “Come!!! Come and overcome the Law of Sin and Death. I will put a Life in You that cannot be pull by the Law of Sin” Just Like the Law of Aerodynamics has helped to overcome the Law of gravity. A plane can fly despite the Law of gravity in operation. In the same way, The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has helped to overcome the Law of Sin(Romans 8:2). When we experience that same life that Jesus had, through the Holy Spirit, it gives us the same power to overcome Sin. Just like the birds, God has put a life into them that can overcome the law of gravity and He can put the Life of Jesus in us also to overcome Sin.

And So Peter stepped out of the Boat!!! And I can imagine the other Disciples crying out to Peter, “Peter oooo!!! Peter!!! What is wrong with You? You are an heretic for thinking You can overcome the Law of gravity. Don’t go to an extreme. Don’t Misinterpret what The Lord is Saying!!! No one has ever done it before!!!” So it is in Today’s Christianity. If you Preach to People that, “Sin shall not have Dominion over you(Romans 6:14), If You tell people that,” You can Walk as Jesus walked(1 John 2:6)”, that they can Live in Victory over all Conscious Sins “They look at You and call You an Heretic for believing the Scriptures. But if someone comes and Preach that,” As Long as we are in this world, we have no choice but to keep sinning in the same area and keep asking for forgiveness and that because of the weakness of the Flesh we cannot but Sin”. They look at the Preacher as say, “Yeah!!! You are a True Servant of God” indeed the Devil has succeeded in turning the Truth of God upside down. So that the True Servant of God are called “Heretic” and the Heretic are called the “Servant of God”And I am surprised that thousands of Christians believe these rubbish contrary to God’s word. But Thank God for few Men like Peter who steps out and say,” The Lord has said to me ‘Come’ Walk upon the water of Sin. I can overcome the Law of Sin and death that is pulling every Human upon the Face of the Earth. If Jesus can overcome, then I can overcome. The same power of the Holy Spirit that helped Jesus as a Man when He walked on the Earth is made available to Me also”. And Lo and behold, Peter Walked on the Water to meet Jesus!!! What a Wonderful experience it was for Peter. There is no partiality with God!!! What He did for Jesus and Peter, He will do for us, if we will believe His Words to Us!!!
Dear Friend, remember to get alone with God immediately He does anything through You lest You become Proud. The storm of life is always contrary to all those who want to obey and live a godly life in Christ Jesus. But in the Midst of the Strom, be rest assured that the presence of the Lord is there to comfort You so you need not fear. Just Like the Law of Gravity pulls all Human, so is the Law of Sin and Death. But those who believe God’s word to them will walk in Victory and never be drown in the Sea of Sin. Those who believe that God will give them the same power Jesus had to Overcome Sin as a Man will also experience a Life of Victory over Sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of Grace that we may find Grace to Help us in time of need(Hebrews 4:15-16).may the Lord Open our eyes to see and believe the Parable in this Miracle. (Amen). God bless You. Have a blessed day.
