Jairus’ Daughter and The Woman with Blood issue!!!
While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will live.” So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His disciples. And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour. When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing, He said to them, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him. But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. And the report of this went out into all that land….. Matthew 9:18-26
In these verses, we read of two Miracles that Jesus did which was the raising of Jairus’s Daughter and the healing of the woman with the issue of blood. Indeed, All His Miracles was an attestation that He was sent from above for the Salvation of All Humanity. Let us consider the circumstance:
While He spoke these things to them, Behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him: while Jesus was still speaking about the old garment and the old wineskin in response to the question on fasting that was asked by the Disciples of John, this Ruler came. This was an interruption into what Jesus was teaching and Yet He took no offense about it. There are many at times we are interrupted by others while we are teaching spiritual truths, let us learn from our Master who was not angry at this, instead He responded to the need of the interrupter. Who was He that interrupted Jesus teaching? It was a Ruler of the Synagogue, Jairus by name(Mark 5:22). The Death of this Man’s Daughter brought Him to Christ. If we will not seek after Christ out of Love, then Let our troubles and sorrows drive us to Him. Jairus was an Humble Man, despite He was a Ruler in the Synagogue, He came by Himself and did not send His Servant. Those who will receive anything from the Lord must learn to Humble themselves, for God resist the proud but give Grace to the Humble(James 4:6).I am yet to see a Humble Man who came to the Lord and Yet rejected. Let us therefore seek after God with all Humility and reverence. When He came to the Lord, He worshiped!!! Just picture this well respected Ruler of the synagogue going on his knees and Worshiping this young Carpenter of Nazareth!!! Indeed, This Ruler was a Humble Man. Those who will receive mercy from the Lord must learn to adore and worship Him. This is another instance showing that Jesus is God. For only God deserves to be Worshiped(Matt 4:10).And when People worshiped Jesus, He did not stop them but received it because He was God Manifested in the Flesh. Though He had emptied Himself of the Rights He has as God when He walked upon the Earth as a Man, Yet He never stopped being God!!
Saying, “My Daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hands on Her and she will Live” : Here again is an Expression of Faith on the part of the parent on behalf of His Child. This is an encouragement to us that we can go to Jesus on behalf of our Children even when they are unable to exercise Faith for themselves. For example when a baby is sick. A Parent cannot exercise Faith for Salvation on behalf of their Children because each child has to make such decision on his or her own. But a parent can exercise faith for healing and other material things like that. So we see this Ruler approaching Jesus on behalf of His Daughter. There was no doubt in His Mind. He had probably never seen Jesus raise a dead person. This is a Faith that rose beyond all he had ever seen. I perceive that He was saying in His mind “Lord, although I have never seen you raise the dead, but I believe from the ones I have seen and heard that You can do this also” indeed, eyes have not seen, nor ears heard the things that God has prepared for those who Love Him(1 Corinthians 2:9)” Let us therefore approach God in confidence and Faith that He can do for us what no man can do!!!
So Jesus arose and Followed Him and so did His Disciples: Anywhere Jesus sees Faith, He response to it. Even if it comes from one of the Rulers of the Synagogue who hated Him so much. He showed no partiality to the Rulers of the Synagogue despite the whole system in the synagogue was wrong. Jesus was willing to help someone in the old Covenant even though He remained there. Jesus attitude was “Wherever I could bless, I would bless”. Jesus did not go to the houses of Sinners alone, He also went to the houses of Pharisees. He went to the house of tax collector, rich people and poor people. All Human being were the same with Him. There was no partiality with Him at all. This is the nature we are to have as Disciples of Christ. We are not to prefer the house of the poor to the rich or the house of the rich to the poor. This is the attitude we must have as well. Let us therefore seek to be free from every form of partiality towards people whether rich or poor.
And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for 12 years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. For she said to herself, “If only I may touch the hem of His garment, I shall be made well”: Here we read of an incident that took place while Jesus was on His way to Jairus’ House. This is also an expression of faith. It is not easy to have faith when you have suffered with a disease for 12 years. This woman had spent all she had on Doctors but she became worse(Mark 5:26). But she never Lose Hope. She still had faith. She knew that though she had tried many Doctors, she has not come to Jesus. She had faith that there is no need for Jesus to speak to me. She said to herself “If only I could touch the hem of His garment, I shall get well” it is easy to have faith once we have already seen another who has touched that garment and got well. But this was original, it was the first time ever recorded that anyone has expressed faith of this nature. There are many at times we have missed out what the Lord has for us because we never took a step of faith. Let us therefore approach Jesus knowing that we have nothing to lose if we come in Faith.
But Jesus turned around and when she saw her He said, “Be of good cheer daughter, Your faith has made you well” : Jesus is so quick to respond to Faith. Anytime He sees faith, He Honours it. Though the Woman did it secretly, yet the Lord sees it. The Lord turned and looked at Her. Those who hide themselves from men are well known to Christ. Those who seek after Christ in private can be sure that the Lord sees them. In the midst of the crowd, there was one who touched by Faith and Jesus could sense it. This is often the case even today, for there are many who are moving around Jesus today, there are many Christians who throng around Him in meetings where the word of God is preached and the Lord is presence in their midst but not All received something from Him. Only those who touch Him by Faith gets the benefits and others do not. The Lord always encourage those who rest their hope and confidence in Him. In all our approach to Christ, there is no need to be afraid for We have not come to a Mountain that can not be touched(Hebrews 12:18). For Christ will always say to us “Be of good cheer” And as if that was not enough, Jesus said to Her “Your faith has made You well!!!” Think of that!! It is not only Jesus power that healed Her. It was her Faith!! That’s what Jesus said. He does not say “My power or the power of God has made You well”. Though that’s true, but the power of God could have done nothing for Her if she didn’t have faith. The power of God is available for everyone but only those who have faith receive it. The power of God and our faith are the two things that must meet for us to receive anything from the Lord. So this woman was healed. The Miracles of Jesus were instantaneous, not a gradual process. The sickness of 12 years disappeared immediately because of Her faith. Whatever our need is, even if we have struggled with it for 12 years. We can receive an answer from Him immediately if we come to Him in Faith.
He said to them, “Give Room, for the Girl is not dead but sleeping” : Finally, when Christ came to the house of the Ruler, there was a lot of crying and sorrowful music for the Girl was really dead. In time when we are in sorrow, it is good if we hear Jesus saying to our heart “Give room for Me”. It is difficult for God to comfort us when our Hearts is full of sorrows. We are to give room in our hearts and cast All our burden upon the Lord. We are to give room for the Lord to do that which only Him can do. For whatever is Dead in our lives is simply a sleep to Him if we have faith and give Him space to work upon us. But Many at times, we ridicule and mock the Lord because of our unbelief. There are many things the Lord could have done for us and through us but he could not because we ridiculed His words in unbelief.
When the Crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand and the girl rose: Those who ridicule and mock the word of God are not worthy to witness the greatness of God’s power. The Lord will not cast His precious pearls before pigs(Matt 7:6). Also Jesus never sought Honour from the Crowds. He would not do things publicly as a demonstration of His powers. It is a wonderful example of Humility and doing something for the Glory of the Lord alone. Just a touch brought the girl back to life. Dead soul will never come to spiritual life and consciousness unless the Lord touch them with His hands.
Dear Friend, without Faith, it is Impossible to bless God!!! For He who comes to God must believe that He is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him(Hebrews 11:6). Let us therefore approach Him in full assurance of Faith, for with God, All things are Possible!!! God bless you. Have a blessed day.
