Day 055 – The Healing of the centurion’s Servant!!!

The Healing of the centurion’s Servant!!!
Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, saying ” Lord, my Servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented” and Jesus said to Him, “I will come and Heal Him.” The centurion answered and said to Him ” Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word and my Servant will be Healed. For I also am a Man under authority having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go’  and He goes, and to another, ‘Come’ and He comes….. And when Jesus heard it, He marveled and said to those who followed “Assuredly,I say to You, I have not found such great faith not even in Israel….. Then Jesus said to the Centurion,” Go Your Way, and as You have believed, so let it be done for you.” And His Servant was healed that same hour……. Matthew 8:5-13
Here we read of Jesus and a Roman Military Officer who had a paralyzed Servant. Though the Jews saw the Romans as an Enemy, yet we see Jesus doing Good to someone who is considered as an enemy to teach us to Love our enemies and do good to those who hate us. Though He was a Gentile and had nothing to do with the Blessings of Israel, yet we see Jesus allowing this Roman soldier to eat from the crumbs that falls from the Children’s table.
A centurion came to Him pleading with Him: The Centurion is probably the Commander in Chief of a province in Capernaum yet see Him seeking after the Lord. Though He was a Soldier, Yet He was a Godly one. Though He was in a Higher position of authority in the world yet he sought for Help from this Young Carpenter in Nazareth pleading for it.The first thing we see about this Roman Centurion was His Humility in coming to the Lord. God has kept for Himself remnant among all sorts of People. Our work and our position in this world is not an excuse for us not to seek the Lord. God has remnant among Soldiers, Politicians, Business tycoons, and CEOs. So none of us will have an excuse on that day to say to the Lord “I would have been a Godly Man or woman but the Nature of my Job did not permit Me” our Job and profession will not be an excuse for our unbelief and lack of faith. The centurion came Pleading. He lay aside His thoughts of position of Honour when He came to Jesus. No matter how great we are in this world, we must become a beggar when we come to the Lord. Let us therefore learn Humility from this Roman Centurion in our approach to the Lord in prayer.
Lord, My Servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented : The Roman centurion recognized the Lordship of Christ and submission to His will. There are many who came to the Lord for Healing but never recognized Him as the Lord of their Life. There are many who came to the Lord for something but never submitted to the Lordship and kingship of Jesus over their wills. This Roman centurion had a Concern for His Servant. In the Gospel, we read of people who came to the Lord on behalf of their children and their friends but this was the only Man that came on behalf of His Servant. It is our duty to care and have a concern for the well being of those who are under our authority. Masters must have a concern for their servants when they are in trouble and pain. Let us therefore learn to approach God in prayer on behalf of others. The Servant was paralyzed, and not able to do his job again. Yet the Master did not send Him away, or neglected Him instead He sought for a way of relief for Him. Paralysis is a Sickness that makes a person inactive and unable to Move. We must have a concern for our Servant who are spiritually paralyzed and inactive in Spiritual things. We must approach God in Prayer to Help them and Heal them from their spiritual dumbness and stagnant condition. Let us therefore learn to have a Concern for our Servants and those who are spiritually paralyzed and tormented by the Devil do do all kinds of Evil. For Jesus is always willing and ready to Heal and Help such people.
Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof: This Centurion soldier had a Low thought about Himself and a very High thoughts about Jesus Christ. He recognized His nothingness, sinfulness and unworthiness to have Jesus inside His House or to receive Favour from Him. He did not say “My Servant is Unworthy” rather He said “I am Unworthy” The Closer we get to know God, the more Humble we become because we discover our unworthiness. Therefore, in our approach to God, let us have a sense of our unworthiness to do anything for God, to receive any good from Him or to have anything to do with Him.
Only speak a word and My Servant will be Healed: Behold the great faith of this Man!!! The more Humble we are, the greater our faith and confidence in the Power of Jesus Christ. The centurion believed that Jesus could Heal his Servant without any bodily contact with that person. Distance is never a barrier to the power of God. The Earth is not too far from Heaven to prevent the Lord from Hearing us neither is the distance to long for Him too Heal us. His words is sufficient for All our need. There is power in His Words. Those who don’t have a passion for the word of God will never come to an understanding of how powerful His words are. How did the Centurion come this conclusion about Jesus words? He discovered that Jesus was a Man under an Authority. As a Military Man He knew that for Him to have authority over others, He must submit to the Authority over Him. So He recognized that Jesus was also Under the authority of God the Father, when He walked on Earth as a Man. Jesus authority came because of His submission to the Authority of God. If we submit to God’s authority as Jesus did, we will also have authority as Jesus did. For there is no partiality with God. The measure by which we submit will be the same measure by which we will have.
Whenever Jesus sees Faith, He appreciate it, when He saw the Faith of this Roman Gentile, He Marveled at it. And to encourage Him, He appreciated His Faith in public in the presence of others. The more we become like Jesus, the more we will learn to appreciate others for the good we see in them publicly. They are some people who will never appreciate You in public because they feel you will become proud about it. Well, they are not Like Jesus. Jesus appreciated others publicly. In all Israel, Jesus had never found such Faith like the Faith of this Gentile Roman Soldier. There are many who knew the Scriptures yet have no faith, but this is the case of a Man who have never read the Scriptures Yet had Great faith in the power of God. What God looks for in our approach to Him is Faith not knowledge. Shame on us if people who have no Knowledge comes and take our place in God’s kingdom because they had faith.
As You have believed, so let it be done to You: we will never get anything from God if we don’t believe that He can do it for Us. If the Lord wants to do something for us and we don’t believe He can do it, forget it!!! The word is “As you have believed” Not “As Jesus Wish” If the Lord deserves to give You freedom over Sexual Sins and habit But You don’t believe He can do it for You, then You will never get Victory. It will be done according to what You believe He can do for You. This is an open cheque given to us. It would be done according to what we believe. The centurion’s Servant got healed because His Master believed that Jesus has the Power to Heal With a Word. There is no need praying for something if you don’t believe that Jesus is going to do it for You. For He who comes to Him must believe that He is and He is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him(Hebrews 11:6). If we come with doubt in our Hearts, we will receive nothing from the Lord(James 1:6-7).
Dear Friend, Do you have a Concern for others Like this Roman centurion? When last did you sought the Lord in prayer on behalf of others? Do you have a servant who is paralyzed by Sins? Have you gone to the Lord in prayers on his behalf? Never become too familiar that you forget your unworthiness before God. Always say to the Lord “I am unworthy to receive anything from You oh Lord” Let us learn from this soldier, Your profession and position in the society is not an excuse for lack of faith. You will discover on the last day that many who claimed to know so much of the Scriptures had little faith in the power of God. May we not be among them in Jesus name(Amen). Don’t forget, It will be done to you according to your faith!!! Jesus may be willing to do a lot of things for you and through You But It will never happen if You don’t believe it is possible. Always say Like Mary ” Behold the Maidservant of the Lord! Let it be done to Me according to Your words(Luke 1:38).” God bless You. Have a blessed day.
